The Economic Benefits of Inclusivity: Unlocking New Customers and New Suppliers

Date: Thursday 4 September 2025

Time: 10:00 - 11:30

Location: Online

About this event

Did you know that disabled people represent a demographic with a spending power of £30.9 billion per year in the West Midlands and £274 billion across the UK? But 75% of disabled people turn their backs on businesses because of poor accessibility and customer service.

In this session, we will explore how businesses can do more to create more inclusive customer experiences to grow their customer base and their business's success.

We will also examine the entrepreneurial and freelance landscape for disabled individuals and how businesses can do more to support emerging disabled-led businesses.

Who should attend?

In this 90-minute session, attendees will learn how their businesses can enhance accessibility and inclusivity to better serve disabled customers and support disabled entrepreneurs and freelancers.

This session is ideal for Business owners and entrepreneurs in the West Midlands looking to enhance their knowledge and awareness.

In this session, we will cover:

  • The Purple Pound (disabled spending power) and how this links to the Black Pound, the Pink Pound, and the Grey Pound.

  • Creating inclusive customer experiences.

  • The wider impacts of inclusion in the West Midlands and beyond.

  • Removing the ‘fear’ factor of getting something wrong.

  • Inclusive communication techniques and accessible marketing.

  • How businesses can support smaller organisations through tender and procurement processes.

  • Where businesses can buy with a social conscience.

  • The current disability entrepreneurship landscape and the government-commissioned Lilac Review.
